Are you choosing the music for your wedding ceremony and wondering what songs to walk down the aisle to? We’ve compiled an amazing list of 50 songs to walk down the aisle to on your wedding day!
Handpicking your own unique wedding ceremony music is another big conversation happening in the wedding industry right now! It’s a fun modern spin on an old wedding day classic. And it takes an otherwise very traditional part of the wedding ceremony and turns it into something you can make all your own. How amazing would it be to hand pick a song that you love, to walk down the aisle to? That’s right, you have more choices than just the good old standby, the wedding march!
There are a few different parts that make up the beginning of your wedding ceremony. The very start of your wedding ceremony, before you even make your grand entrance, will begin with the prelude. The prelude is when music will begin to play softly as guests arrive and find their way to their seats. A lighter tone of the music is typically played in the background during the prelude. This allows guests to sit patiently and await the arrival of the bridal party!
It’s important to note that depending on the entertainment or musicians that you’ve hired for your ceremony music, the prelude music will be done in the same style as your ceremony music. The prelude music that you select should also set the tone for the upcoming ceremony. Whether it’s pop, rock, or classical, we’ll let you decide! Here’s another quick note about your prelude. The prelude music should be enjoyed by your guests at a volume that allows them to carry on light conversations. Because this is the time that things begin to settle down in anticipation of the start of the ceremony!

Next, the bridal party will make their grand entrance, kicking off the beginning of the processional. What is a wedding processional? It’s when members of your family and your bridal party walk down the aisle in a specific, set order. The order in which these groups of people walk down the aisle will be dependent upon the type of wedding you are having and varies correspondingly to different cultures and religions. For example, Jewish, Christian, and Hindu weddings all have their own version of what defines a classic wedding processional according to their own customs and tradition. Simply put, a processional refers to your walk down the aisle and kicks off the start of your wedding ceremony.
Not sure about the order in which your family and bridal party should make their entrance during your processional? A typical non-denominational wedding ceremony processional would follow an order similar to these two examples:
Processional Example 1
- Officiant
- Groom, and Best Man (they can come out from the “side” or walk down the aisle!)
- Groomsmen (can be combined with bridesmaids)
- Bridesmaids (can be combined with groomsmen)
- Maid of Honor
- Flower Girl & Ring Bearer
- Bride and Escort
If you’re having a non-denominational wedding and you’d like your grandparents to make their way down the aisle also, then it’ll be up to you to decide the order in which they come out. You have a few different options for sending those amazing grandparents of yours down the aisle. They can come out in pairs after the officiant (grandparents of the groom, then grandparents of the bride) or they can come out before the bridal party according to which side they are related. If you decide to send your grandparents down the aisle using the second option, then your processional might look a little something like this:
Processional Example 2
- Officiant
- Groom, and Best Man (they can come out from the “side” or walk down the aisle!)
- Grandparents of the Groom
- Groomsmen (can be combined with bridesmaids)
- Grandparents of the Bride
- Bridesmaids (can be combined with groomsmen)
- Maid of Honor
- Flower Girl & Ring Bearer
- Bride and escort
Now that you have the order in which your family members and bridal party will come down the aisle as part of your processional, here’s where the fun party begins! You can select different songs for each set of groupings within your processional!
If you want to keep things as straightforward as possible, and not add on a whole lot of extra time to your ceremony, there are a few ways to go about this. We’ll break it down for your using the example of the processionals from above!

One quick thing we’d like to mention through before you scroll through our list of 50 songs to walk down the aisle to on your wedding day! If you’re going to do the whole “please stand for the bride” thing and your wedding guests are not expecting the opening lick of a rock song, you may want to have your officiant actually announce “please stand for the bride!” before your song begins!
We’ve included everything in the list below from Frank Sinatra to the 70s, 80s, and 90s. There are a few indie favorites, some modern love songs, and of course, Queen Bey! We rounded up some of our absolute favorites but the choice will be yours on whether you delight your guests with versions of these songs that are acoustic, instrumental, orchestra style, played by string instruments, or played on an organ. Or, conversely, you can surprise your guests and have your music done in a completely different, unique styling that will have them going “hey, what song is that?”!
